Vocational Re-Training; an Alternative to 4 Years or More of College Debt

Burdine & Brown Feb. 20, 2020

America is a country of working people, hard-working people indeed. For years, we have been sold a “bill of goods” that the only way to really be successful in our choice of careers is to go to a 4-year college. Then, if we want to genuinely be successful, we will attend graduate school in business, the law, medicine, and engineering or computer sciences.

The astronomical debt that is accumulated achieving this level of education causes an unbelievable amount of stress on the graduates, some with $200,000 or more of student loans to pay back over the next 20 years (while interest accumulates as well).

As an aside, New York University School of Medicine joined with one of the founders of Home Depot in Atlanta, Georgia, to declare that all medical students' school tuition debts would we wiped out completely beginning with the class of 2019. Furthermore, New York Medical School would from now on be a tuition free medical school. Check out the U Tube videos of Kenneth Langone, the originator of this programs and one of the Home Depot's founders.

Now back to my story. Ivanka Trump, President Trump's lovely and highly motivated daughter, has been able to convince many of the Fortune 500 companies in the USA to create programs of different variations around the idea of vocational training and rehabilitation.

The Federal Government would give the states funding to train students for different trades and technical careers. Ivanka Trump is meeting with a number of US Senators, both Republicans and Democrats, to push the creation of this program.

News reports say that as many as 11 million Americans all across the USA could benefit from these grants. As more manufacturing jobs re-enter the USA, and especially the business-friendly state of Georgia, working families will be able to earn more money and enjoy a higher standard of living. We hear the politicians claiming only the rich benefit from the economic boom we are now experiencing. While I do not agree with this “politically inspired way of thinking,” this legislation can give many American families an opportunity for careers in better paying and more satisfying quality jobs that “fit” with our modern economy.
